We are a small family business that operates a garden center, a landscape company and a maintenance service. Most of us have been working here for many years. We believe strongly that Ken Matthews Garden Center is successful because of our employees. We are a hardworking group of people who are looking for people who enjoy being physical, love the outdoors and are passionate about helping people succeed with their gardening experience.
Inside Garden Associate
The Inside Garden Associate’s priority is exemplary customer service. As an Inside Garden Associate, your focus is finalizing customer transactions, but this position also includes pricing and displaying new product, caring for houseplants, helping load customer purchases and maintaining the appearance of the garden center.
While prior knowledge of plants and their care is a plus, we will teach you. We are looking for candidates that are willing to learn quickly and retain what we teach. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. This is a part time position with some weekend work especially in the spring and fall. There is potential for more hours if you are interested in cross-training in other areas.
Outside Garden Associate
This position is all about keeping our plants and customers healthy and happy. Customer service is foremost, but this position also includes watering, plant and garden maintenance, unloading plant and product trucks, maintaining the grounds, creating displays, loading bulk soil and mulch, loading bagged products, and loading a customer’s vehicle. You don’t have to know all the plants we sell, but being passionate about gardening and plants is very important. We will teach you, but you must be willing to learn quickly and retain what we teach. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. We are looking for full time and part time associates. Since most of our customers garden on the weekends in the growing season, our Outside Garden Associates know to clear their weekend schedules in the spring and fall months. We have a more in-depth description we can share with you once we meet.
Garden Helper/Water Person
Your duties as a Garden Helper/Water Person are very important here! This position is essential to keep our plants healthy, our customers happy and the garden center property clean and organized. Some of your duties would be watering plants, helping customers load their purchases into their vehicles, returning carts, path maintenance, weeding the gardens, tagging and stocking plants, and cleaning fountains and birdbaths. A flexible schedule, to include weekends in the busy season, is important.
Retail Delivery Driver
You’ll be loading and delivering what customers purchase to their homes. You MUST have a valid state issued operator’s driver’s license with a favorable driving record with no major moving violations. Being comfortable driving trucks larger than a pick up is a must. Some of our trucks are manual shift. We will review each truck with you and teach you how to load product with the skid loader and tractor. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and able to work some weekends.
Garden Designer
This person must know plants and preferably have (some) background in garden design. This position involves creating garden designs for customers as well as estimating installation. Your position here will depend on your experience level. You MUST have a valid state issued operator’s driver’s license with a favorable driving record with no major moving violations.
A flexible schedule during the growing season is a must.
Landscape Foreman
This person should know how to interpret landscape plans, organize landscape jobs from loading trucks to completing projects, complete work orders correctly and manage crew people. This position also requires knowledge of plants, plant setting, proper installation, pruning, mulching and sodding techniques, as well as basic knowledge of small engine equipment. You MUST have a valid state issued operator’s driver’s license with a favorable driving record with no major moving violations. This is a year round full time position.
