What Is a Warm-Season Lawn?
A warm-season lawn is made up of grasses that thrive in hot summer months and grow most actively when temperatures are high. These lawns typically include Bermuda, Zoysia, and Centipede grasses*, which are heat-tolerant, drought-resistant, and stay lush during the warmest part of the year.
Warm-season grasses go dormant in the cooler months, so knowing their growth cycle is key to keeping them healthy, thick, and vibrant the rest of the year. A month-by-month care plan helps you time fertilization, seeding, weed control, and other maintenance tasks to match the natural rhythm of your lawn. Following this guide ensures your warm-season grass looks its best through every season, from spring green-up to fall dormancy.
St. Augustine is another warm-season grass that can follow the warm-season lawn calendar for the most part, except for using Jonathan Green Lawn Weed Control. Also, please note that Bonide WeedBeater Ultra should not be used on Floratam St. Augustine grass.
