Lawn Care Recommendations

February – Do a quick soil and/or pH test. Apply Mag-i-cal or lime if needed. First crabgrass pre-emergent application. (Use Jonathan Green Green-Up & Crabgrass Pre-Emergent)

March – Application of broadleaf weed control. (Use Jonathan Green Lawn Weed Control)

April – Application of broadleaf weed control continued.

May – Insecticide application for grubs, ticks, fleas, etc. (Use Jonathan Green Pest Control) First watch for disease – possible fungicide application (Use Bonide Infuse fungicide)

JuneContinue broadleaf weed control (Use Jonathan Green Lawn Weed Control or Weed Beater). Possible second application of crabgrass control (Use Jonathan Green Green-Up & Crabgrass Pre-Emergent)

July – Continue broadleaf weed control (Use Jonathan Green Lawn Weed Control or Weed Beater). An application of iron helps lawns through the summer.

August – Do a quick soil and/or pH test. Apply Mag-i-cal or lime if needed. Begin lawn renovation preparation. Kill all undesirable weeds and grass (Use Kleen-Up or Round-Up).

SeptemberThatch by hand if thatch is more than ½ an inch thick. Core aeration highly recommended. Seed new lawn with recommended Ken Matthews Grass Seed. First fall application of fertilizer (Use Jonathan Green New Seeding Lawn Fertilizer for over-seeding or new lawns or Jonathan Green Green-Up for established lawns).

OctoberSecond application of fertilizer. Apply 30-40 days after first application (Use Jonathan Green Green-Up).

November – Third application of fertilizer (Use Jonathan Green Winter Survival).

December – Spray broadleaf weeds after you have mowed new grass at least 3-4 times (Use Weed Beater).
